INSTITUTE FOR MOLECULAR AND CLINICAL IMMUNOLOGY

Panoramaaufnahme des IMKI (c) Christian Morawe

Welcome to the Institute for Molecular and Clinical Immunology!

The Institute für Molecular and Clinical Immunology (IMKI) contributes to the medical care, teaching and research on the Medical Campus of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.

The institute offers a wide range of laboratory diagnostics covering disorders of the human immune system as well as its changes during diseases and therapeutic interventions. These cover parameters of both humoral as well as cellular immunology.

Furthermore the institute was conferred the authorization for the advanced training of certified immunologists (Fachimmunolog:innen) by the German Society for Immunology (DGfI). These

The IMKI is also involved in a wide range of teaching. Our professors teach molecular and clinical immunology in lectures, seminars and practical courses for medical students as well as for master students in Immunology (offered by the Medical Faculty) as well as students of Biosystems Engineering (offered by the Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering).

The research of the various groups of the IMKI focusses on the dynamics and the communication of immune cells during inflammatory and infectious processes. Furthermore, we are interested in the molecular mechanisms of the activation and differentiation of immune cells as well as their ionic, metabolic and pharmacological regulation.

A methodical focus of the institute is the use of high-end imaging and flow cytometry to analyse immunological processes. The campus service unit „Multi-parametric Bioimaging and Cytometry - MPBIC" is located at the institute.
